Needless to say, the mold business can be extremely messy, not just because of the microbial growth but because of the shady practices of some mold inspection and remediation companies.  Unfortunately, far too many homeowners have been victims of these deceptive practices.  At Florida Inspections Unlimited, we believe that every mold inspection and remediation company should provide honest practices.  Here are 3 mold inspection scams that many of our customers have had first-hand experience with:

FREE Mold Inspections

Let’s be realistic.  Nothing in today’s society is free or “if it sounds too good to be true.” This is true where mold inspections are concerned as well.  While most mold inspection companies do offer free mold inspections, this is just a common marketing strategy used throughout our industry.  The reality is that they don’t provide a mold inspection.  We know this because mold remediation companies are not allowed to do mold inspections and vice versa.  The problem is that the mold inspection favors the contractor, not the customer.

Home Inspection Companies that Upsell Mold Testing

These home inspectors are not mold inspectors and are simply misleading you into believing that they can provide a professional service.  Although these types of inspections do provide lab reports, that’s about all they do.  You’ll usually find out that you’re going to have to pay for another inspection.  Only this time, it will be a licensed mold inspector to come re-inspect your property the right way.  Basically, you have to pay for a second inspection because you were sold an over-priced test by someone who had no real expertise in the matter. That is why it is important to ask before you get the home inspection done.

You Scheduled a Mold Inspection and they Brought a Remediation Expert

This could be due to one of two things.  The inspector is getting paid a commission (this is illegal in Florida) or the two are working in conjunction with one another in order to land a remediation job (this is an unethical business practice).  We had a former client who was a property manager and who came to us because a tenant hired a mold inspector who discovered high levels of mold.  However, he wanted us to inspect the property because he didn’t believe the tenant.  It turns out that the tenant had unknowingly hired a pair of scammers.

The bottom line is that whenever you’re experiencing mold-related issues, you want to hire a professional mold inspection company like Florida Inspections Unlimited to ensure that you’re getting an accurate and trustworthy inspection.  Contact us today at 305-910-1171.
